So I had a bad experience and I'd like to share it with everyone. In Jersey City they are currently performing a lot of construction and parking is limited. My girlfriend read the sign wrong and parked in a spot where construction was happening and her car was towed to the Jersey City Impound. OK.... crap happens, not a big deal. After finding out that her car was towed she called the Jersey City impound. We were not able to pick up her car that same day so she spoke with the "police officer" and I quote "police officer" and he said that he will be there bright and early in the morning. She said, "great I will be getting my car in the morning." We drive to the Jersey City impound and there is a sign that says DO NOT ENTER - PARKING FOR EMPLOYEES ONLY. This impound has no parking - you HAVE to park on the side of the road.
We then proceed to the first building to the left and walk in. Here we find a woman on the phone telling whoever she is talking to that they are a "pain in her ass". When there was a break in their conversation we then say hello we are here to pickup our car. She tells us to go to the other side and pointed. Below is the image of this broken down & really dirty building we first walked up to. Great we have some progress. We go to the place she pointed to and speak with this gentleman. We started the process to get our car back. He was very nice & filled out the paper work fast. Now the fun begins... He then told us that we have to wait for the "police officer" to get back because he had to step out for 10 minutes. Alright no problem, the "police officer" has duties that need to be done. The gentleman told us we need to get the insurance card from our car. At first he said we have to wait for the officer then changed his mind and said we can get it out of the car now and gave us the keys. But he didn't explain it as easy as I just said. I am unsure how he did explain, but he confused us really bad because he contradicted himself, spoke broken English, and explained something so easy 3 different ways; we had to decipher what he was trying to tell us. We get the insurance card and wait. 10 minutes goes by.... 20 minutes goes by.... still waiting. The first woman we saw walked up to us. Asked "you two still waitin'? He ("police officer") went to the store, he be back". Great, the officer on duty is at the store... another 10 minutes go by... My girlfriend goes up the first gentleman that helped us and said "We have been waiting for 30 minutes, where is the police officer?" The gentleman replied, "he had to go to headquarters, he should be back soon. She replied, "the woman just told us he went to the store, why does it take 30 minutes?" The gentleman said, "oh he went to headquarters first, then to the store. She said, "great news, please call him and tell him that people are waiting." We waiting another 15 minutes and the "police officer" finally shows up. We were waiting for a total for 45+ minutes for the "police officer" to get back from the store when he knew we were coming to get the car because my girlfriend spoke with him yesterday. (So picture what a normal police officer looks like... Got it? Now, picture 100% the opposite.) Officer Jimmy Harris gets out of his normal car, not a police car. He walks to the passenger side and carries a brown paper bag. He was holding it at the bottom, seriously looking like it had 2 bottles of alcohol. (This is NOT accurate because we don't know for sure, but that is sure what this scenario looked like.) Jimmy Harris sees us, then continues to walk into the opposite side of where we are sitting and enters the shack. He walks to his side of the building from the inside and says "Please step to the window." We walk up and hand him the papers he needed. We said, "we have been waiting for 45 minutes." Absolutely no reply from Jimmy Harris - has no care in the world about us civilians. He filled out 5 fields on a piece of paper and said, "go to the other window". That was it, no sorry for making you wait, nothing. At this point we are livid... we give the first gentleman the paper, he writes some more stuff, charges us $180 dollars for the car. Plus the ticket for $45 with a mandatory court appearance. We had to wait another 5 minutes for the woman to open the gate so we could get our car. I seriously feel bad for anyone who has to visit this place. It's unorganized, broken-down, dirty, employees don't care about you & a time consuming process to get your car back. Good luck and happy travels.Copyright © 2011 - Jersey City Impound. All rights reserved.
